For her latest solo exhibition, Birkbeck
presents ‘Vladimir’, the new installment from her critically acclaimed
‘Instantanés’ series. The Instantanés series explores the potential of
sound to produce a truthful and resonant aural portrait of a place and
it’s people. Birkbeck enters the field to record the defining sounds
that characterise a location, brings them back to her studio to distil,
then rebuilds them into sound installation experiences. These creations
are offered to the audience to inspire investigation into our
relationship with sound, and how it helps to form our modern sense of
identity and place.

Alongside sound works for CD publication and
National Radio, Birkbeck has exhibited in Toronto, Singapore and
Glasgow, and her work can also be heard on the YYZ anthology Aural
Cultures.
